Hustle Spotlight: Building a Business Without Begging for Respect.

Owning a business in Nigeria? Not for the faint of heart. Factor in economic instability, fluctuating costs, and the everyday chaos, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for stress. Unless you’re someone like Eniola.

Meet the mastermind behind NIOLUXE; a vibrant brand known for beaded accessories, engraved jewelry, and curated gift boxes with intentional flair.

But NIOLUXE didn’t always start out luxe.

Eniola’s hustle journey kicked off under the name “Beaded by Enny”, crafting intricate handmade bags and jewelry. But as the economy shifted and profit margins for beaded pieces started to shrink, she knew it was time for a pivot.

“I really just wasn’t feeling it anymore,” she admitted.

Beading was time-consuming and, frankly, wasn’t bringing in the kind of money to match the effort. So she diversified by leaning into products that could be created faster and scaled more easily.

Then came NIOLUXE.

Navigating Customers, With Boundaries

Over two years in the game, Eniola has seen it all, especially when it comes to customer behaviour. But one thing is clear:

“I understand that I’m offering value, so I don’t let any customer talk to me anyhow.”

Period. We love a business owner who knows her worth.

While “the customer is always right” might be the unofficial rule of retail, respectfully, some customers dey craze.

What Keeps Her Going?

Money, cute clothes, food and the finer things in life

Fair. If you’re going to work this hard, why not enjoy the benefits?

Her Golden Rule?

Patience.

From juggling odd requests to handling order mix-ups and delivery wahala, Eniola has learned that keeping her cool is key.

And for fellow entrepreneurs, her advice is gold:

“Some business owners treat customers like mini gods — like the money they’re paying us is for charity. I know I give value, and I act like it. I don’t carry myself in a way that allows disrespect.”

The bottom line is, running a business is a two-way street. Whether you’re selling or buying, mutual respect makes the hustle worth it. Life is hard enough, why make it harder?

Money may make the world go round, but respect? That’s what keeps it from spinning off its axis.

Soft Life Chronicles: I Broke Up With Stress And I’m Never Looking Back.

Hi, my name is Chisom, and I recently did something that changed my life I broke up with stress. Yes, we had a long, toxic relationship. Yes, I kept going back. But not anymore. This year, I’m choosing peace, ease, and positive vibes only. The moment I realized I was not born to suffer was the day NEPA took light while I was working three jobs from my tiny Lagos apartment, with one eye on my dying laptop, the other on my bank app showing I had a balance of ₦5,000 naira. I paused. I sighed. I whispered, “Is this really my portion?” The answer came to me as if God himself were whispering in my ears. “No, babe. You were made for a soft life.” I decided to cut off anything bringing stress into my life. I cut it the way you cut off a toxic ex. First to go? That "let’s suffer together" friend that calls me every 3 market days to rant about a man that doesn’t know her birthday. I have enough on my plate as it is and I don't burden you every minute of the day. Next? The client th...

Your 20s can feel like a constant hustle. Some people say, “Follow your passion. Do what you love. Don’t settle for less.” On the other side, reality keeps whispering: “Rent is due, food is expensive, and bills won’t pay themselves.” Adulting is more than just finding yourself. It’s about surviving, choices, sacrifices, and sometimes, the silent battles no one talks about. The hardest part? We weren't given a guideline on how to balance doing what makes us happy and doing what makes us financially stable. When it comes to choosing between passion and paycheck in your 20s, the truth is that it’s never black and white. It can be really messy, complicated, and comes with guilt, comparisons, and constant second-guessing. Let’s break it down. - Passion feels good, but it doesn’t always pay Everyone has passion for something, that thing that you really love doing and want it to have an impact in the society. Passion has a way of lighting you up. There’s something special about waking up...
